For U2 Nothing Matters

By MCA

Thursday, 11 June 2009

It didn’t matter whether Metro Manila was under signal number two. It didn’t matter where everyone came from. It didn’t matter which group everyone belonged to. There were no excuses, just reasons…reasons that only the people present during the rock event of the year could understand. U2: THE NU DECLARATION was not just a success. It turned into a milestone that brought forth one of the most powerful forces that music can exhibit - unity.

Last May 7, 2009 at the studios of NURock 107 along Emerald Avenue, MCA MUSIC, together with SMART, JIM BEAM and PAPAYA GRILLERIE located at Timog, Glorietta and Ortigas wined and dined the Philippines’ most respected rock artists and personalities. Among those are members from Chicosci, Cambio, The Ambassadors, Paraluman, Callalily, 6 Cycle Mind, Sutil, Spongecola, Pupil, Archipelago, Duster, Aurora, Intolerant, Juan Pablo Dream, Parokya ni Edgar, Angulo, Blue Jean Junkies, as well as solo act Chris Cayzer and many others.

The head honchos of rock groups were also present. Some of which were members from Sonic Boom who manages Urbandub, Nyctinasty, Salamin, Intolerant, Hilera etc. Soup Star Entertainment who handles Pedicab, 6 Cycle Mind, Sandwich, Imago etc., Maven Entertainment who manages Spongecola and other independent labels. There were also U2 fans that came all the way from the provinces to pay homage to legendary band U2.

The gathering was held to formally declare NURock107 studios as the official hub of U2 in the Philippines. The whole façade was imprinted with images of Bono, The Edge, Larry and Adam and the monochromatic design featured in U2’s new album, No Line on the Horizon. NURock107 was awarded a plaque by MCA Music Inc. to show recognition to the station’s contribution for making U2 one of the biggest artists here in the Philippines and for instilling rock music across the nation with their constant support for local Pinoy rock acts to who strive to have a place in the global music scene.
Best of all, the rest of the country was given the chance to take part in U2: The NU Declaration as the entire event was broadcasted live on NU107, with simulcast over NU107 Cebu, Iloilo & Davao from 8pm till 1130pm. The airwaves were filled with nothing but U2 songs, interspersed with band interviews from NU107 rock jocks Francis Brew, Pontri, the girls of 2 Girls 1 Show -- Kim & Monica, Jewel & Jamo. Myx VJ Monica and the Myx crew also had their hands full doing interviews with the bands.
The night was filled with everything U2! A graffiti board was placed on the entrance where all attendees had the chance to say their message for U2. All attendees also had the chance to bring home imported U2 items. But the highlight of it all was the presence of everyone who put down all boundaries and came together for a night solely dedicated for rock music.

The event also formally announced the newest single of U2 from No Line on the Horizon, Magnificent. The song veers from the out of the box efforts placed on Get On Your Boots. It starts off with a catchy entrance that inspires feelings of anticipation to the highest level that by the time it hits the chorus, the listener wakes up to an ambient worthy tune, reflective and nostalgic of the original sound that U2 has been known for over the years.
